THE Ministry of Social Service and Development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MSSD-Barmm) has released P2 million cash assistance to persons with disabilities (PWD) in Datu Piang, Maguindanao.

The cash assistance was released during the official launching of MSSD’s program dubbed as “Kalinga Para sa may Kapansanan" on Saturday, September 26.

MSSD Minister Raissa Jajurie said the program benefited 453 PWDs, each of whom received P4,500 as part of their monthly allowance from January to September.

Jajurie said the program aims to protect PWDs in Barmm from abuse and neglect.

“The chief minister recognizes that while PWDs require social protection, they are also capable of claiming their rights and making decisions for their lives based on their free and informed consent as well as being members of society,” Jajurie said.

Arlene Utto, 36, one of the beneficiaries who suffered a stroke last year, said she is thankful for the initiative of Barmm as it will be of great help to PWDs like her.

Jajuri said the MSSD-Barmm is targeting 30,000 PWDs across the region to be included in the program, wherein they will receive a P500 monthly social pension for their medicine and daily needs. (SunStar Zamboanga)
