THE Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) is allocating additional funds for the construction of a bridge that will help lessen by two hours the travel time from Marawi City, Lanao del Sur to Cagayan de Oro City.

Barmm’s Ministry of Public Works Minister Eduard Guerra said the regional government is set to allocate another P25 million for the second phase of the bridge construction under 2021 appropriations.

Guerra said the first phase of the bridge construction started in 2018 funded by the then Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) with budget allocation of P25 million.

The bridge is connected with the Kapai-Tagoloan Road, which is also termed "Dream Road 2."

The Bayug Bridge, which extends to 40 meters, is being constructed in Bago-ah Ingud village, Tagoloan II, Lanao del Sur.

Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. said the bridge, once completed, will help ease the travel from Lanao del Sur to Cagayan de Oro City via Talakag, Bukidnon.

"Once the said road is fully constructed, it will take less than two hours for travelers from Marawi City to reach Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City," Adiong said.

Meanwhile, Guerra said his office has maintained its steadfast commitment to deliver utmost quality infrastructure facilities and services.

"We envision to increase strategic and climate-resilient infrastructure to support sustainable socio-economic development in Barmm," Guerra said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
