A FOLLOWER of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) was killed while bomb-making components were recovered following a clash in the province of Maguindanao, the police said Sunday, August 28, 2022.

Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said the clash happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, August 28, while the BIFF was massing up forces in Dumablac village, Talayan, Maguindanao.

Verceles said the slain BIFF member was identified as Karutin Kamid Kalantungan, a follower of the BIFF-Bungos faction.

Verceles said that the troops of the 6th Infantry Division were conducting a security operation when they had a brief chance encounter against a group of BIFF in Dumablac village.

He said the remains of Kalantungan and the bomb-making components were recovered during the clearing operation in the vicinity of the clash site.

He said the remains of Kalantungan were turned over to the village chairperson of Dumablac for proper disposition and burial. (SunStar Zamboanga)
