Bizman hurt in Zamboanga Sibugay gun attack; suspect nabbed

A BUSINESSMAN was shot and wounded, while the suspect was arrested in a pursuit operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, February 22.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the victim as Ruben Sollano Palong-Palong and the suspect as Bernard Ronnie Niala.

Duco said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Purok 1 in Bliss village, Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Duco said that prior to the incident, the victim and the suspect engaged in heated altercation.

He said Niala, in the midst of the altercation, pulled a handgun and repeatedly shot Palong-Palong and fled aboard a motorcycle.

He said Palong-Palong was rushed to Saint John Hospital for treatment while the police launched a pursuit operation that resulted in the arrest of Niala. (SunStar Zamboanga)
