Businessman dies in gun attack

A BUSINESSMAN was shot and killed in front of his residence in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, December 1.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. Monday on Dablo Street, Purok Makabibihag in Santa Lucia village, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur province.

Duco identified the fatality as Roseller Sabejon Sumampong Sr., 47, who died instantaneously from a single bullet wound.

Duco said investigation showed that Sumampong was standing in front of his residence after fixing his motorcycle when two unidentified persons approached him and without hesitation shot the victim once in the head.

He said the suspects fled toward Santiago village after the incident.

Recovered from the crime scene were an empty shell of caliber .45 pistol.

Duco said investigation continues to determine the motive and the identities of the gunmen. (SunStar Zamboanga)
