A POLICEMWOMAN was killed, while her friend was injured in a hacking incident in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Thursday, February 20.

Police Captain Edwin Duco, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer, identified the fatality as Police Senior Master Sergeant Marjorie Ebol Mauricio, 45, of ZCPO's Police Station 10.

Wounded was Sweet Grace Santos, 43.

The incident happened around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, on Bacalso Drive in the village of Labuan, west of Zamboanga City.

Investigation revealed that prior to the incident, Mauricio pacified and tried to calm down her uncle, Felixberto Esperat, 60, who was drunk.

A heated argument ensued between Mauricio and Esperat, who suddenly pulled a bolo and hacked the policeman in the arm and neck. Esperate also hacked Santos in the arm.

Duco said Mauricio was rushed to the Labuan Public Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. Santos was admitted for treatment.

Esperat fled and is now subject of a police manhunt. (SunStar Zamboanga)
