THE City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has scheduled a week-long training on the preparation of a family disaster plan for officials from the 98 villages and heads of families in Zamboanga City.

CDRRMO chief Elmeir Jade Apolinario said the training, dubbed “A Prepared Home is a Safe Home,” will kick off Monday, May 20, and end on Saturday, May 25.

Apolinario said the training will be conducted in three batches. The first batch will be from May 20 to 21; second batch, May 22 to 23; and, third batch, May 24 to 25. Apolinario said the activity will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

He said the training seeks to raise family awareness on hazards, vulnerabilities and risk presence in their own home or community as well as to identify and develop appropriate family preparedness, prevention and mitigation mechanism.

He said the same activity aims to strengthen families’ or individuals’ response to specific hazards or disasters; identify the key roles and responsibilities of family members during disaster and create and develop a comprehensive family disaster plan that is doable, responsive, gender and persons with disability sensitive.
