Cops seized smuggled cigarettes

POLICEMEN have seized some P17,600 worth of smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Monday, March 13, 2023.

Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said the smuggled cigarettes were seized around 3:40 p.m. Monday, at Purok Golden Shower in Libertad village, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Verceles said that no one was arrested as the supposed owners of the contraband fled upon sensing the arrival of policemen.

He said recovered at Purok Golden Shower in Libertad villages were 44 reams of Astro brand smuggled cigarettes worth P17,600.

The confiscated smuggled cigarettes were placed under the custody of the Tungawan Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
