DA boosts livestock propagation program

THE Department of Agriculture has acquired 15 liquid nitrogen (LN2) mother tanks to boost its livestock propagation program.

Rad Donn Cedeño, DA-Zamboanga Peninsula executive director, said the LN2 tanks are large vacuum storage containers with insulation, much like an oversized thermos used to hold canisters for semen collection for artificial insemination (AI) of livestock.

Cedeño said the 15 LN2 mother tanks were turned over to the City Veterinarian Office of Pagadian City and were received by Dr. Rino Soria, the Pagadian assistant city veterinarian.

The 15 LN2 mother tanks are worth a total of P705,000 funded under the DA-Livestock Program.

The acquisition of the LN2 tanks mother tanks was aimed to increase the livestock production of Pagadian City and the entire region.

“This innovative technology is a great help to our livestock propagation. It requires expertise and caution in handling this instrument,” said Dr. Darwin Lloyd Sulay, DA regional livestock coordinator.

Pagadian City Mayor Samuel Co, who witnessed the turnover of the LN2 mother tanks, said it is of big help to the livestock program of the City Agriculturist Office. (SunStar Zamboanga)
