THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has turned over vegetable seeds to the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula in support for the establishment of backyard garden.

The vegetables seeds Arnulfo Estrada, DA regional agricultural program coordinator, and Albert Cuadra, high-value crops development program report officer, turned over to PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula include okra, eggplant, squash, bitter gourd, mustard, sponge gourd, tomato and pechay.

Police Executive Master Sergeant Noel Linao, regional executive senior police officer (Respo), said they will establish backyard garden of various vegetables at Camp Colonel Romeo Abendan that houses the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula headquarters in Mercedes village, this city.

Linao said that the establishment of the vegetable garden inside Camp Abendan is one way to support the policemen and its communities to consume healthy food.

“The primary purpose of the vegetable garden will be for the consumption of vegetables our front-liner personnel during this pandemic,” Linao said.

Estrada expressed appreciation for the police force in the initiative of requesting for seeds assistance for the establishment of the vegetables "backyard garden."

Estrada said they support the undertaking of the PRO-Zamboanga Peninsula and “we hope that with the seeds we provided, they will be successful in their project.”

“We really hope that they will sustain the garden once they have established it. We also take this opportunity to thank them for all their services during this pandemic.” Estrada said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
