DA holds native chicken production training

THE Department of Agriculture (DA)-Zamboanga Peninsula, through its Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program, conducted a training to capacitate the farmers on Free-Range Native Chicken Production and Management in Zamboanga del Sur.

May Harap of the DA-Mahayag Livestock and Breeding Center said the training, which was held last week, was attended by some 30 farmers in the town of Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

Harap, who served as the resource speaker of the training, said the training aims to provide the farmers with proper knowledge to raise poultry for meat and egg production.

She said it also aimed to equip the farmers with ample learnings to be able to manage a small-scale commercial poultry business.

The DA-Zamboanga Peninsula 4K program staff assisted Harap in the conduct of the one-day activity.

Meanwhile, the DA-Zamboanga Peninsula, through its High-Value Commercial Development Program (HVCDP), conducted its 3rd Package of Technology Training, this time on cacao production in Zamboanga City.

Some 30 cacao growers and farmers attended the two-day training, which was held last week at a hotel in this city.

The two-day activity included lectures and open discussions on Post-Harvest Cultural practices, Integrated Pests/Diseases Management, Post-Harvest Processing, including the overview of Cacao in the city, as presented by resource speakers Merida Garcia of the City Agriculturist Office, and Antonio Magsino Jr., a private consultant.
