THE Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Organic Agriculture Program, has conducted a one-day vermicomposting training and botanical concoction production in Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Janice Legaspi, organic agriculture program focal person, said the training, which was held on Wednesday, June 8, was attended by 15 organic practitioners in the town of Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Legaspi said the training was aimed to equip organic practitioners in Talusan to make their own organic fertilizers to be utilized in their crops and farms.

The conduct of the training is in line with the agency’s advocacy on Republic Act 10068 otherwise known as the Philippine Organic Agriculture Act of 2010.

Legaspi expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the municipal government of Talusan for the support and allowing them to impart new knowledge on Organic fertilizer production to the farmers in Talusan.

“We strongly encourage the use of these organic fertilizers as it is safer than commercial fertilizers,” she said.

“It is very effective in growing healthy crops,” she added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
