DA-Zamboanga Peninsula holds vegetable production training

THE Department of Agriculture (DA)-Zamboanga Peninsula, through its Gulayan sa Paaralan Program, has conducted Thursday, September 9, 2021, a training on vegetable production for teachers in Dipolog City.

DA-Zamboanga Peninsula Executive Director Rad Donn Cedeño said Friday that the vegetable production training, which was held in Dipolog City, was attended by 33 public school teachers.

A project of DA-Zamboanga Peninsula’s High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP), Cedeño said the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program provides skills enhancement training and planting support to teachers and technicians for them to utilize and implement in their respective schools.

Cedeño said the participants were lectured on the importance of establishing school gardens, crop museums, its protection and bio-intensive gardening, natural farming technology system, harvesting and post-harvest management, seed production, as well as urban gardening.

He said teachers also received garden tools such as shovels, sprinklers and bolo knives, along with assorted vegetable seeds and molasses.

Aside from Cedeño, present during the training were Agricultural Program Coordinator for Zamboanga del Norte George Vallente, HVCDP focal person Hannibal Bayo-ang, Gulayan sa Paaralan focal person Analiza Quilo, together with the resource persons and staff from the City Agriculturist Office of Dipolog.
