Disability prevention week celebration kicks off Wednesday

THE Zamboanga City Government through the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Unit (PDAU) of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWSO) will spearhead activities celebrating the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week from Wednesday, July 17, until Tuesday of next week, July 23.

CSWDO chief Socorro Rojas said the NDPR week celebration will kick off with a motorcade at 8 a.m. from Pettit Barracks to the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in the village of Tetuan.

The motorcade will be followed by the opening program with Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar as the keynote speaker.

Rojas said a huge gathering of members of the PWD Federation in Zamboanga to include Village PWD organizations such as those from Cawit, Sta. Maria, San Roque, Boalan, Labuan, Sangali, Mampang and Taluksangay together with their respective village councilors who are PWD Focal Persons will converge at a local hotel during the week for an important gathering.

Rojas said the celebration of the NDPR Week is every third week of July pursuant to Proclamation 361.

The nationwide activity culminates July 23, the birthday of Apolinario Mabini, the sublime paralytic.
