DSWD releases ‘centenarian gift’ to 3 elderlies

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has distributed P100,000 “centenarian gift” to three elderly residents of Zamboanga City.

The grant of the centenarian gift is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 10868 otherwise known as the “Centenarians Act of 2016.”

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD regional information officer, two of three personally received the cash gift while the third one, who already died, was given to the family.

Salvador said one of the living recipients and the family of the posthumous beneficiary received the centenarian gift in City Hall on Thursday, June 21.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and other officials of DSWD and of the City Social Welfare and Development Office witnessed the release of the cash gift.

Salvador said the other living beneficiary received the gift, also on Thursday, June 21, at the field office of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs in Ayala village, west of this city.

He said per recipients have also received a letter of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte aside from the P100,000 cash gift each.

Those entitled to receive the one-time cash gift are Filipinos who reached the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad as stipulated in RA 10868. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
