AN ELECTION official and his daughter were hurt, while his wife escaped unscathed in a gun attack in Basilan province, the police reported Tuesday, October 12.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the incident took place around 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 11, in San Rafael village, Isabela City, the capital of Basilan.

Ylagan identified the victims as Aknam Hasim, 49, the election officer of Maluso, Basilan, and his daughter, Marwa, 20.

Ylagan said that Hasim was aboard a four-wheel vehicle together with his wife and daughter on the way to the city proper when repeatedly shot by a lone gunman standing at the side of the road.

Hasim and his daughter, who were injured, were rushed to the Basilan Community Hospital, while Hasim's wife, whose identity is not known, was unscathed.

The gunman fled. Recovered at the crime scene were eight spent shells and two slugs of caliber .45 pistol.

Ylagan has ordered the police in Isabela City to conduct an in-depth probe into the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
