Elite cop, ex-soldier arrested for ammo smuggling

A MEMBER of the police elite unit and a retired soldier were arrested in an entrapment for ammunition smuggling Saturday, June 16, in Zamboanga City.

Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Alkalif Mohammad of the Special Action Group (SAG) of the Special Action Force (SAF) and retired Technical Sergeant Ernesto Tio were arrested around 10:20 a.m. Saturday in Sitio Flamingo in Barangay Upper Calarian.

Chief Superintendent Billy Beltran, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the entrapment was initiated by joint police and military agents following information the suspects were selling ammunition.

He said recovered from the suspects possessions were 30 rounds armored piercing and 100 rounds of regular ammunition for M-16 Armalite rifle and P3,000 marked money consisting of three P1,000 bills.

He said they were detained at the detention cell of the Zamboanga City Police Office for proper disposition.
