THE Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) and the Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu has launched “Free WiFi for All” project at a military hospital in the Province of Sulu.

Maria Teresa Camba, DICT-Mindanao Cluster 1 regional director, and Major General William Gonzales, JTF-Sulu and 11th Infantry Division commander, led the launching of the project Thursday, April 9, at the Camp General Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Bus-Bus village, Jolo, Sulu.

Camba said the project is part of Tech4Ed Project of DICT that aims to provide connectivity among communities.

Major Sayid Cedicol, Camp General Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital chief, extended his appreciation that the hospital was chosen as the first to be serviced out of all military infrastructures in the Province of Sulu.

Gonzales said the WiFi connectivity project will definitely have a beneficial impact in the Province of Sulu.

Camba said establishing the free internet access in public places is now mandated under Republic Act 10929, otherwise known as Free Internet Access in Public Places Act.

Camba said the installations of free WiFi initially were set for schools, military camp, hospitals and town halls.

Brigadier General Manuel Sequitin, 11th Infantry Division assistant commander, and Colonel Lambert Jonathan Gesolgon, Western Mindanao Command assistant chief of unified command staff for communications, electronics, and information systems, and other senior military officials witnessed the launching of the project.
