Government employee dies in gun attack

A GOVERNMENT employee was killed while a driver escaped unscathed in a drive-by gun attack in Zamboanga Sibugay province, the police said Tuesday, June 12.

The Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Police Office identified the fatality as Marife Bonghanoy, 44, an employee of the Alicia Municipal Government.

Unscathed was Ariel de Fiesta, 21, a “habal-habal” (motorcycle taxi) driver.

The police said the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Monday in Naga-Naga village, Alicia.

Investigation showed the victim was aboard a motorcycle driven by De Fiesta traveling from the municipal hall to Kapatagan village when shot by one of three men riding tandem on another motorcycle that tailed them.

The victim was rushed but failed to reach alive at the Alicia District Hospital.

Investigation continues in a bid to establish the motive as well as unmask the identities of the suspects, the police added. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
