IPs in Zamboanga Sibugay town undergo goat production training

THREE indigenous people (IP) organizations in Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay province have undergone goat production training conducted by the Department of Agriculture (DA)-Zamboanga Peninsula.

Zaldy Martel, DA-Zamboanga Peninsula livestock program technical expert, said Friday, November 5, 2021, that the training was aimed to enhance the farmers’ knowledge and skills in sustainable goat production.

The goat production training was conducted through the Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program of DA-Zamboanga Peninsula.

Martel, who served as the resource speaker, said the training was conducted in an open-air venue in their respective villages from November 2 until November 3.

Martel said they discussed during the training the different components in raising goats, including housing, care and management, breeds selection and control of common diseases in goats.

The training participants belong to the Lapaz Subanen Tribe Association, Sulu Indigenous Peoples and Farmers Association and Indigenous People Workers Association.

The DA9 4K Program expressed gratitude to DA Regional Executive Director Rad Donn Cedeño for his leadership, and the support of the municipal government of Naga, Naga Municipal Agriculture Office and the Naga Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representation in the conduct of the training.
