Labor department cautions public on fund-raising scams

THE regional office of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) has warned the public against bogus Dole employees who contact private companies to ask for donations for a fund-raising activity.

Dole regional director Ofelia Domingo issued the warning after a merchandising company reported to her office that a certain Jane Dela Paz, allegedly connected to Dole regional office, contacted them asking for a donation of P20,000 to be deposited to the savings account of a certain Rose Ann B. Gonzales.

Dela Paz used the number mobile phone 0961-210-08-72 to contact unsuspecting victims.

Dela Paz claimed the said amount will be used for a fund-raiser related to a campaign against dengue.

“Dela Paz and Gonzales are not employees of Dole. We strongly advise the public to be wary of such scams. The government does not, in any way, ask for donations from individuals or companies as this is prohibited by law,” Domingo warned.

“We urge citizens to be vigilant and to report to the authorities any unscrupulous activity right away,” Domingo added.

She encouraged the public to alert Dole about scams by calling Dole-Zamboanga Peninsula Hotline at (062) 991-3376, (062) 955-0214, and 0917-724-43-34.

She said the Dole hotline service is open to attend not only to queries about labor and employment issues but also to other critical incidents affecting local and overseas-based workers. (SunStar Zamboanga)
