Law enforcement operation nets ex-Sulu town exec

A FORMER mayor of one of the towns in Sulu was arrested in a law enforcement operation for violation of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Act of 1997, the police reported Friday, December 4, 2020.

Arrested was Abdulsali Kangiluhan Asmadun, 66, the former mayor of Lugus, Sulu, according to Police Captain Edwin Duco, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer.

Duco said Asmadun was arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of a warrant of arrest around 1 p.m. Thursday at his residence on Don Alfaro Street in Tetuan village, Zamboanga City.

Duco said Asmadun was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest for a 25-count violation of Section 52(g) of Republic Act 8291 otherwise known as the GSIS Act of 1997 issued on November 20, 2020, by the second division of the Sandiganbayan.

He said the Sandiganbayan has set the bail at P10,000 for each count ora total of P250,000 for the temporary liberty of Asmadun.

The former town executive is now under the temporary custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
