Marine soldier killed in gun attack

A MARINE soldier was killed in a broad daylight gun attack in Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday, November 29, 2022.

Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office director, identified the fatality as Sergeant Antonieto Doc-Doc, 36, a member of the Philippine Marines assigned in the city.

Lorenzo said that Doc-Doc was shot by two motorcycle-riding gunmen around 1:40 p.m. Monday, November 28, along San Jose Road in San Jose-Cawa-Cawa village.

Lorenzo said investigation showed the victim was aboard a tricycle coming from Canelar village on the way to a food chain branch in San Jose-Cawa-Cawa when the suspects, who tailed the soldier, repeatedly shot the victim.

He said the suspects sped towards the city proper while the Doc-Doc was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The victim expired around 4:10 p.m. Monday based on the declaration of the attending physician.

He said recovered from the crime scene were four empty shells and three deformed slugs of caliber .45 pistol.

He said they have yet to determine the motive behind and establish the identities of the suspects behind the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
