THE military and the provincial government of Zamboanga del Sur has partnered to repair and enhance a road in a village in the municipality of Dumingag in that province.

The Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion (IB) said the road repair project, which is nearing completion is located at the back of an elementary school in Saad village, Dumingag.

The project is being undertaken by the Army’s 547th Engineer Battalion of the 54th Engineer Brigade in partnership with the Zamboanga del Sur provincial government.

The 53IB said that the repair and enhancement of a road segment near Saad Elementary School was initiated as a response from the clamor of residents who fear that a landslide-prone hill at the back of the school might collapse unto the school building endangering the safety of young students.

The issue was promptly addressed with the provision of engineering equipment and personnel by the Philippine Army ably supported with expert and logistics support from the provincial government, according to the 53IB.

“Graveling of the road is now ongoing, and in a few weeks, the project is expected to be completed with the safety of the children using the school building near the road finally assured,” the 53IB said in a statement. (SunStar Zamboanga)
