A MOTORCYCLIST died after he was run over by a truck along the provincial road in Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Tuesday, December 6.

The police identified the fatality as Jerwin Gelicame, 41, a resident of Purok Balimbingan in Sumpotan village, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

The police said the incident happened around 6:15 p.m. Monday, December 5, at the provincial road in Nangka village, Dinas, Zamboanga del Sur.

Investigation showed that Gelicame tried to overtake a truck driven by Abddul Cahar Esmael, 32, while driving a motorcycle along the provincial road.

But Gelicame was ran over by the truck driven by Esmael after he accidentally swerved and crashed into the pavement after he tried to return to his lane as there was on incoming vehicle.

Gelicame died instantly due to severe head injury, the police said.

Gelicame's remains was brought to a funeral home in San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur and subsequently turned over to his immediate family.

Esmael and his truck were placed under the custody of Dinas Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
