NPA rebel killed in clash

A NEW People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in a clash with government forces in the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, the military reported Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said that clash ensued around 9 a.m. Monday, June 27, in Dipawak village, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Nicolas identified the slaine NPA rebels as Nilo Runat Tambula, Jr., who carries the aliases of Ka Benjie and Ka Cesar, who belongs to the Squad 2, Team Abe of the defunct Guerilla Front Big Beautiful Country (BBC) of the WMRPC.

Nicolas said the clash ensued as the troops launched intensified operation against the remnants of the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC) in Zamboanga Peninsula.

He said the troops recovered an M-16 Armalite rifle, assorted war materials, personal belongings, and food stuff at the clash site.

He said that no one among the troops who belong to the 53rd Infantry Battalion were either killed or wounded in the 20-minute clash. (SunStar Zamboanga)
