A SUSPECTED member of the New People’s Army (NPA) was killed in a clash with troops in the province of Misamis Occidental.

Colonel Gerry Besana, Western Mindanano Command (Westmincom) chief, said the clash happened around 9:40 a.m. Monday, February 18, in the village of San Pedro in Aloran, Misamis Occidental.

He said the troops were in the area to check on reported presence of NPA rebels who were recruiting the youth and extorting money from the residents.

Besana said the troops recovered from the clash site an AK-47 rifle with ammunition and subversive documents with high intelligence value.

He said the firefight lasted for about 30 minutes and bloodstains were visible along the path taken by the rebels when they withdrew. (Bong Garcia)
