P74,700 smuggled cigarettes seized

GOVERNMENT operatives have seized some P74,700 worth of smuggled cigarettes in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Sunday, June 13, 2021.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, said the smuggled cigarettes were seized around 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, in Purok Violeta in Lintugop village, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ylagan said the policemen from the Aurora Municipal Police Station were conducting roving patrol when they intercepted a multi-cab drop-side vehicle registered under the name of Pangsayan Abdulrakman of Dadungan, Talitay, Maguindanao.

He said the vehicle was found loaded with 249 reams of cigarettes—150 Marvels and 99 Jackpot brands—packed in five master cases worth P74,700.

He said the vehicle and the smuggled cigarettes were placed under the custody of Aurora Municipal Police Station for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
