Police say barangay, SK polls in Zamboanga peaceful

THE Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said the conduct of the 2018 Barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections on Monday, May 14, was generally peaceful.

Senior Inspector Shellamie Chang, ZCPO information officer, said there was no recorded untoward incident in Zamboanga City when voting ended at 3 p.m. Monday.

Chang said they deployed more than 1,000 police personnel for election duty in Zamboanga City’s 98 barangays, including eight island villages.

She said 17 policemen served as Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) in Barangay Busay on Sacol Island, about 29 kilometers east of Zamboanga City.

Lawyer Stephen Roy Cañete, first district election officer, earlier said they decided to assign policemen as BEI since the teachers designated in Barangay Busay received death threats. (SunStar Philippines)
