SOME 100 families from the town of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay province will soon have their own houses.

This, as the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the municipal government of Naga have signed last week a Memorandum of Agreement for the implementation of the project.

“There is no more reason that our residents will resort to join the Communist Terrorist because our government is now doing everything we can. Historically, 40 to 70 percent of those who joined the NPA were lumads, but now, most of them have returned to their families and communities,” Naga Municipal Mayor Rino Delos Reyes said.

Delos Reyes said the housing project is intended for the Subanen families of Sandayong village that will be constructed in a 9,996.22-square-meter lot amounting to P19.9 million.

Engineer Al-Khwarizmi Indanan, NHA district manager, said the housing agency in partnership with the local government units and other agencies will continue to provide better homes for those who need them.

Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, expressed his gratitude for the upcoming project for the lumads in Sandayong village, Naga.

“I have spent my junior years as a military officer not only in Sandayong, but also in other parts of the province, and I am delighted with the development that it went throughout the years,” Nicolas said.

“Before, you need to walk several kilometers to reach the barangay, but today, it can be accessed by all types of vehicles and with this projects, residents of Sandayong will have better homes for their families,” he added. (SunStar Zamboanga)
