THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has placed Task Force GenSan under the command and control of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), officials said.

This development came after the task force has been assigned as component unit of the Army's 6th Infantry Division, which is under Westmincom.

Task Force GenSan was previously an operating unit of the Army's 10th Infantry Division, which is under the military's Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom).

The task force is the operating unit of the military that has jurisdiction over General Santos City.

Major Arvin John Encinas, Westmincom spokesperson, said Task Force GenSan has become a component unit of the 6th Infantry Division after an adjustment has been made in the areas of responsibility between Westmincom and Eastmincom.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, Westmincom chief, officially welcomed the troops of Task Force GenSan when he visited Sunday, May 24, at the unit's headquarters in the village of Bula, General Santos City.

Colonel Eduardo Gubat, Task Force GenSan commander, presented to Sobejana the unit's mission, updates, accomplishments, history, as well as the operational approaches and best practices in addressing the threats being confronted by the unit.

"Continue replicating your accomplishments as we work for peace and progress in our area of operation," Sobejana told the troops of the Task Force GenSan. (SunStar Zamboanga)
