A TEENAGER set ablaze their own house after she was prevented from roaming around in lieu of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) crisis.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Purok 4 in Buenaswerte Village, Tukuran, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Galvez said razed to the ground was the house of Marcela Irog-Irog Booc while the suspect was her daughter, Maricel, 17, a Grade 11 student.

She said prior to the incident, the mother and daughter had a heated altercation as Marcela hid the motorcycle of Maricel to prevent her from roaming around in observance of the enhance community quarantine.

Galvez added that minutes later, Maricel torched their house, which was made of light materials, with the use of dried coconut and banana leaves “lighted up with a disposable lighter.”

She said Maricel is now under the custody of Tukuran Municipal Police Station under close monitoring of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. (SunStar Zamboanga)
