THE socio-cultural activities in the 2018 Zamboanga Hermosa Festival calendar will conclude Thursday, October 11 with the colorful street dance competition, main program and the grand parade of lights.

Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will keynote the main program set at Paseo del Mar right after the 8 a.m. street dance competition.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the street dance competition will kick off in front of the local fire station along Mayor Ledesma Street.

Salazar said that a total of 11 entries will compete in the four categories to include some out-of-town contingents from Zamboanga del Norte and Basilan.

She said the prizes will range based on the category but for the regional category, it will be P300,000, P250,000 and P200,000 for the first, second and third place, respectively.

Meanwhile, the grand parade of lights will be at 6 p.m. from Mayor Agan avenue to City Hall grounds with 11 participants.

Salazar said it will feature the UZ@70 floats and the grand lights show, the first projection mapping show in Zamboanga City.

She said the parade of lights will be followed by the Concierto na Ayuntamiento and the switch-on of lights at City Hall and the UZ building on J.S. Alano Street which will be transformed as a huge screen showing the story of UZ and Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
