Twister destroys 26 houses in Zamboanga City

THE City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) said 27 houses were destroyed Sunday, October 10, by twister spawned by the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm "Maring" in Zamboanga City.

Dr. Elmeir Jade Apolinario, CDRRMO chief, said Monday, October 11, that 27 houses were destroyed when twister hit two villages in the city.

Of the 27 houses destroyed, 26 were located in Logoy Grande in Talon-Talon village and the remaining one in Lumbangan village.

Apolinario said no casualties were reported in the incident, which happened around 2 p.m. Sunday in the two villages.

Meanwhile, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) conducted assessment and validation for the grant of financial assistance.

Food packs were also provided to the owners of the affected houses.

Strong winds also uprooted trees damaging houses and establishments as well as causing traffic in the villages of San Jose Gusu, Sinunuc, and Pasonanca. (SunStar Zamboanga)
