ZAMBOANGA City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez announced her office will embark on urban gardening program in 2020, in a bid to promote organic vegetable production among households.

Sanchez said they will initially identify 100 households in 30 urban villages to jump start the program.

Sanchez added they will distribute free seedlings and will provide technical assistance to the identified beneficiaries to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

She said the vegetables that they will grow is through organic gardening to help keep them away from sickness.

Meanwhile, Sanchez is encouraging every family with little spaces to also make their own hanging gardens at home.

She said this is one way of saving money because they don’t have to buy vegetables and other crops in the market. (SunStar Zamboanga)
