Zamboanga City Covid-19 cases rise to 897

THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) increased to 897 since the Covid-19 pandemic began as local health authorities logged 38 new cases, as of Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

The local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Covid-19 said Wednesday that 47 new recoveries and two mortalities were also recorded as of Tuesday. The death toll stands at 36

The local IATF said that of the total cases, 360 are currently active and 501 are recovered patients.

The task force said that 299 of the active cases are traced to community transmission, 48 are locally stranded individuals (LSIs), eight are returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) while five are from the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center.

The task force said that the 501 recoveries represent a 56 percent recovery rate for this city, a positive development that indicates an effective health system in place.

The task force added that the 36 mortalities represent a four-percent death rate. (SunStar Zamboanga)
