Zamboanga mayor supports Misuari's appointment

MAYOR Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Monday, December 16, declared her support to President Rodrigo Duterte's decision to appoint Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) chairperson Nur Misuari as the government's economic ambassador to the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

"We would abide by the best decision and the best wisdom of President Duterte in appointing Misuari to represent the government in the OIC," Salazar said.

She added that even during their first meeting in 2016, Duterte had already hinted his intention of giving Misuari an opportunity to take a leadership role in government so as to fully implement the peace process.

Salazar believes that if this was done earlier, Zamboanga City would have not become victim or collateral damage of the 2013 siege.

"However, with the decision of President Duterte, we are in full support of the full implementation of the peace accords with different groups, particularly those that have affected the city," she said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
