THE Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) relentlessly enforced health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the city, a top ZCPO official said.

Police Colonel Rexmel Reyes, ZCPO director, said they have recorded 237 violations of Covid-related protocols and regulations for operations conducted Monday, March 22.

Reyes said that of the total violations, 42 involved non-observance of safe physical distancing, 10 curfew violations, 43 non-wearing of face mask, three unauthorized motorcycle back-riding, 21 no valid identification cards and 118 non-wearing of face shield.

Reyes said the apprehension was done by policemen conducting mobile checkpoints in different areas of the city.

"We reiterate our appeal to the public to continuously comply with the minimum health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the community and in the entire city," he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has instructed the 74th Infantry Battalion to coordinate with the ZCPO in guarding the city's entry and exit points and borders, including the highways, to ensure that people entering the city from nearby provinces are properly profiled.

Salazar said incoming travelers passing through the borders must be properly screened and profiled for contact tracing and other purposes to ensure that the people of the city are safe. (SunStar Zamboanga)
