Zamboanga City pushes 'no single use of plastic' campaign

THE City Government of Zamboanga, through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR), joins the celebration of the World Environment Month this June, focusing on the no single use of plastic campaign.

The celebration of the World Environment Month kicked off here with a motorcade Sunday, June 5, 2022, spearheaded by the OCENR.

Engineer Reynaldo Gonzales, OCENR chief, said that simultaneously all barangays held clean-up activities in their respective area of responsibility as June 5 is also the World Environment Day.

Gonzales, through Public Service Officer Raymond Padayhag, met with representatives of various malls and supermarkets to reiterate the implementation of Executive Order 453-2019 banning the use of plastic shopping bags in the city every Saturday and Sunday, thus, the emphasis on the no to single use plastic on weekends campaign.

Meanwhile, the OCENR has scheduled other activities for the World Environment Month celebration.

These include meeting with owners of all drugstores, stores selling China-made items and public market stall holders on E.O. 453 on June 15; Celebration of Arbor Day through mangrove propagule planting on June 25; Coastal clean-up at R. T. Lim Boulevard; and, awarding ceremonies on June 28, 2022. (SunStar Zamboanga)
