Registration for summer sports program now open

THE Zamboanga City Government on Friday, March 8, announced that the registration for its annual sports program is now open.

Now on its 24th year, the Basic Sports Summer Camp 2019--Summer Learn to Play--an annual sports initiative is spearheaded by the local government through its sports division.

The program aims to train school-age children from seven to 15 years old in their chosen sport amongst the 26 sport disciplines offered.

The 26 sport disciplines open for participants are: archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, baseball/softball, body building, boxing, chess, dancesport, football/futsal, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, Muay Thai, pencak silat, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and e-one 7.

Dr. Cecile Atilano, city sports development officer, said that this year’s summer sports camp will run from April 6 to May 11, with the opening program to be held at the newly rehabilitated Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

Atilano said that specific time and venues for each sport discipline will be announced at the opening program.

She said that each participant may only choose one sport to enroll in for the duration of the sports camp, which is offered free of charge.
