Young Zamboanga chess wizard wins

A YOUNG Zamboangueño chess wizard outshined the other participants in one of the competition’s categories in the week-long chess competition in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The event, dubbed the 1st Mayor Seth Frederick Jalosjos National Youth and Schools Chess Championship, was held from September 16 to 22 at the Dapitan City Cultural and Sports Center.

Dr. Cecil Atilano, city sports director, said John Cyrus Borce emerged as champion in the 15 and under (Boys Category) during the week-long chess competition.

Atilano said that Borce has also achieved a National Master Title for his participation in the chess competition.

Borce received a trophy and a certificate of achievement for his feat in the chess event.

Meanwhile, Atilano said that another Zamboangueño, Fletch Archer Arado, placed second runner-up in the same 15 and under Boys category.

The other Zamboangueño winners and their categories are the following: 17 and Under Girls Category, 1st Runner Up - Angela Joelle San Luis; 11 and Under Girls Category, 2nd Runner Up - Cyreine Jean Borce; 17 and Under Boys Category, 3rd Runner Up - Robick Vohn Villa; and, 13 and Under Boys Category, 4th Runner Up - Art Noblijas.

The Zamboanga City delegation's coach was Joey Albert Florendo.
