ZAMBOANGA City delegation has garnered 15 gold, 20 silver and 29 bronze medals and ranked 8th in the recently-concluded Batang Pinoy Games-Mindanao leg held in Tagum City, Davao del Norte from February 2 to 9, this year.

The athletes together with their coaches and parents presented their awards to Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and city government employees during the Monday flag raising ceremony at the city hall.

Dr. Cecil Atilano, city sports director, and staff accompanied the local delegation.

As this developed, Salazar thanked and commended the 265-men delegation for their feats, as she vowed to continue support to sports and youth development through different programs under the banner Security, Health and Education (SHE).

She announced that the newly-renovated Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in the village of Baliwasan will soon be opened for sports trainings and practices.

The mayor expressed elation that the athletes, though with the absence of a permanent and well-established training facility the past five years, remain competitive and continue to bring honor and fame to the city in national and even international sports competitions. (SunStar Philippines)
