THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)-Central Visayas is looking into conducting an autopsy on the body of the mother from Toledo City who died upon giving birth last May 18, 2022.

NBI-Central Visayas Director Renan Oliva confirmed that they received a complaint filed against the Toledo City General Hospital by Joevinel Magno, 34, husband of deceased Immaline Villarino, who also lost her baby on May 18.

Villarino’s family, from Barangay Canlumampao, Toledo City, complained of medical negligence committed by the doctors, midwives and other personnel of the Toledo City General Hospital that allegedly resulted in the death of the mother and her child.

Villarino was rushed to the Toledo City General Hospital on May 11 after she suffered of high blood pressure just four days before she was set to give birth.

But on May 14, hospital personnel suddenly transferred her to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where she eventually died during an emergency caesarean delivery.

"Ang among plano nga i-autopsy to ang cause of death. We are waiting for the husband to come to the office to submit the death certificate of his wife," Oliva said.

He said they need to look into the death certificate first before they can speculate on whether there was negligence on the part of the hospital.

"Dili sa ko mo espiculate ana. Tan-awon sa nato kon unsa. First of all, we want to see unsay cause of death sa death certificate," he stressed.

Villarino was laid to rest on May 21, 2022. Her body will then be exhumed for the planned autopsy. (BBT/LMY)
