HEY, have you ever tried dragon fruit? It's this crazy-looking tropical fruit that's all over the place in Aklan, Western Visayas. But get this - there's a dragon fruit farm in Ronda, Cebu that's super popular with tourists! Here's #allyouneedtoknow about this awesome spot.
Dragon fruit in Cebu
The farm is owned by Maximino and Elma Alayacyac, who are originally from Aklan. They started planting dragon fruit in 2015 and initially did it for their own consumption. However, the farm quickly gained popularity, and they decided to plant more trees to accommodate the visitors.
All-year-round
The couple has planted 1,000 dragon fruit trees on their three-hectare farm. The trees bear fruit from April to September, and even during the off-season months, the trees still produce fruit because of the light that Maximino installed around each tree.
Picturesque cafe
To cater to visitors, Maximino and Elma Alayacyac built a cafe on the farm called Delcio'z Resto Cafe, which opened in September 2018. Visitors can enjoy the picturesque view of the dragon fruit farm while quenching their thirst with a dragon fruit shake or buying fresh dragon fruit in three colors: magenta, white, and yellow.
Take care
The once-quiet town of Ronda is now teeming with tourists because of the dragon fruit farm. Maximino reminds visitors to be careful not to damage the plants or flowers when taking pictures. The farm is not open to the public, and only customers of Delcio'z Resto Cafe are allowed to take pictures inside the farm.
For those bringing their own cars, Delcio'z has a wide parking area, and the cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The farm is located between the towns of Dumanjug and Ronda, which is a three-hour drive from the city of Cebu with no major traffic. (CLC)
