THE Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office filed a case of parricide against the husband of the woman who was chopped and whose body parts were discovered in the Cities of Cebu and Mandaue in October 2020.
In a four-page complaint written by Assistant City Prosecutor Russel D. Busico and signed by Mandaue City Prosecutor Mary Francis Daquipil on May 14, 2021, the investigation revealed enough probable cause to file a case of parricide against Harold C. Kintanar in the death of his wife, Angelie Lopez-Kintanar.
Busico wrote that there is no “direct evidence” that connects Harold to the death of his wife, but circumstances pointed to him.
“However, the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Angelie points at no other person responsible therefore but him,” the complaint states.
One of the bases of the case was Angelie’s instruction to her friends. She told them that if anything happened to her, they should only look for one person: her husband.
The Kintanar couple lived in Deca Homes in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.
In October 2020, Angelie was with two other couples whose last names are Guardo and Combista and with her children in the house of the Guardos.
The two other couples made sure that Angelie and her children arrived at their home on the night of Oct. 18, 2020, the last time they saw Angelie.
Busico also acquired the statement of Mark Daniel Trapsi, the neighbor of the Kintanars and Harold’s “fraternal brother.”
Trapsi said that the Kintanar couple always fought with each other. Harold told him that he caught Angelie with another man inside their house “and this made him very mad at her.”
The last time Trapsi saw Angelie was on Oct. 12, 2020, when she was walking with her children.
A week after that, he was invited by Harold for a drink and he noticed that Harold’s fingers were all covered with tapes.
“So that there will be no fingerprints and no evidence,” Harold told Trapsi in Cebuano.
Busico said that this answer to Trapsi’s question about the tape-covered fingers prompted him to refuse Harold’s invitation.
In his counter-affidavit, Harold said that the complaint against him is over the top just because Trapsi’s observation immediately placed him as responsible for his wife’s death.
He also said that Angelie’s instruction to her friends meant that he should be notified in case of an emergency.
“The literal translation is, ‘If something happens to me, there is only one person you should look for, my husband,’” said the prosecutor.
Harold also left their children with his friend, an Indian national, for four days since Angelie went missing.
“Leaving her to the custody of another person, an Indian national, for four days is highly irregular,” the complaint states.
Busico said that the filing of a case against Harold does not declare him guilty of killing his wife. Instead, it calls for a hearing or settlement before the court.
Angelie’s body was found without her head, hands, and legs on Oct. 24, 2020, at a creek Sitio Kalubihan in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City.
