Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan confirmed to SunStar Davao that Go’s staff identified as Leo Angelo Apara, 38, passed away around 12:38 a.m. Thursday.

Asked about updates on the investigation, Gaspan said the probe is still ongoing and they could not yet provide any other information.

“That is all our update,” Gaspan added.

On July 31, Apara attempted to end his life by shooting himself in the head inside Go's office in Barangay 20-B Barrio Obrero, Davao City, around 11 a.m.

Based on the witness account, Apara went inside the office’s stock room and minutes later, they a heard gunshot, prompting them to rush inside the said room.

They saw Apara unconscious, sitting on the boxes bathed in his own blood.

Apara was rushed to San Pedro Hospital for treatment but he went into a coma.

Police said people close to the victim said they were not aware of any emotional problem or conflict Apara had with anyone that may cause him to end his life.

Authorities are still investigating on the reason for Apara's suicide.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered a .38 caliber revolver loaded with four bullets, one spent cartridge, and one fired bullet.

Gaspan said they are still verifying with the firearms and explosive division as to the ownership of the firearm.

Go said Apara was one of his trusted staff who has helped him in giving assistance to those who visit their office.

“We are deeply saddened with the death of one of our staff in Davao City. We would like to refrain from making any further comments about the incident as a sign of respect to the family, colleagues and loved ones,” Go said.

“Lastly, we would like to request that you offer prayers for the eternal repose of his soul. Thank you,” he added. (SunStar Davao)
