Cardinal Vidal's tomb to open Monday afternoon

THE mausoleum of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral where the body of the late Cebu Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal was buried will be open for public viewing at 4 p.m. today, October 30.

Monsigor Ruben Labajo, team moderator of the Cathedral, said the opening of the mausoleum is in time of the regular mass at 6 p.m.

Last October 26, church officials announced a few minutes after the cardinal's burial that the tomb will be closed to public viewing to give way to its completion.

Today's public viewing (October 30) will only be short-lived as the mausoleum will be closed after the 6 p.m. mass.

But starting on Tuesday, October 31, until November 5, the mausoleum will be opened to the public during office hours, or between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Msgr. Labajo said.

By next week, the Cathedral will close the mausoleum again to the public to allow the contractor in charge of the construction to continue its work.

Labajo has issued a request to the public to refrain from bringing flowers and lighting candles to the cardinal's tomb. (Sheila Gravinez/SuperBalita Cebu)
