Family: Slain Carcar village official's death a 'rubout'

THE family of the former barangay councilor who was killed in a drug bust in Carcar City on Monday, February 13, lamented that his death in the hands of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives was a rubout.

Jomer Padin, 27, daughter of former barangay councilman Elmer Padin, told SunStar Cebu that her father was "mercilessly killed" and that the PDEA-Central Visayas planted the drugs in his possession.

But PDEA-Central Visayas Director Yogi Ruiz said in response that Padin tried to pull out his caliber .45, prompting the operatives to fire at them first.

Ruiz said Monday that Padin is the one supplying drugs to Jonathan Marfe, the suspect in the alleged rape of a four-month-old baby in Barangay Perrelos, Carcar City.

“He was the supplier of drugs to the rapist and it was a known fact in the area that the latter was his regular buyer,” he said.

Ruiz said Tuesday that the fall of many barangay officials in Carcar is an indication that the city has a drug problem.

He called out to Carcar City Mayor Nicepuro Apura to visit the PDEA office to discuss anti-drugs operations.

Ruiz said they are monitoring two government officials in Carcar for their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade. (JOB/SunStar Cebu)
