Village official turns over unlicensed firearm

A VILLAGE official from Medellin town, Cebu surrendered his unlicensed firearm to police on Friday noon, July 28.

Kawit Barangay Captain Oscar Banzon, a former priest, turned over his .22 rifle to Senior Inspector Arvi Aguites Arbuis, the town's police chief, at Medellin Police Station.

During the session of Kawit Barangay Council on the same day, before Banzon surrendered the rifle, Arbuis advised the officials to surrender their unlicensed firearms.

"Siya nay nag-open nga may armas siya, naa sa ilang balay. Dugay nang panahon nga gitagoan for protection," Arbuis said.

After Banzon entrusted his firearm, Arbuis then urged other gunholders to surrender their unlicensed firearms, while working on the permits.

On Wednesday, July 26, Former Medellin mayor Ricardo “Ricky” Ramirez was caught by the police for allegedly keeping unlicensed firearms and drug paraphernalia

Seized from Ramirez were two M4/M16 rifles with telescope and eight steel magazines, a .30 rifle, a .22 rifle with telescope, two air rifles, a .45 pistol, 9mm pistol, magazines, bullets, empty shells, and a gun license.
