KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan official said five charred bodies were found after a cargo plane slammed into a mountaintop east of Afghanistan's capital with eight people aboard.

Police Gen. Zulmayi Horya Khail said more than 200 Afghan security forces are scouring the area Wednesday for three missing people.

The plane went down Tuesday evening east of Kabul.

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known. Weather conditions were clear at the time.

Kabul Airport Director Mohammad Yaqub Rassuli said the aircraft was carrying supplies for NATO forces.

Rassuli said all eight crew members were believed dead.

NATO said early reports indicated the plane was an L-100 Hercules aircraft. The plane was not a NATO aircraft. (AP)
